Please take the time to read the E-News for weekly important school information.


All School Mass - Friday, September 5 at 9:00 am

Please join us for our opening All School Mass on Friday, September 5 at 9am at St. Joseph Church in Issaquah. All students need to be dropped off at St. Joseph Church in Issaquah starting at 8:45 am. All 4 – 8 grade students should meet their teacher in the Church Hall.  All K-3 grade students should go directly to their classroom.  FULL DRESS UNIFORM is required. Girls – plaid jumper, plaid skirt, plaid skort, navy skirt or navy skort (6-8 only) or navy pants, plain white, collared shirt, and sweater or vest, no leggings. Boys – long, navy pants, white collared shirt, and sweater or vest.

No red shirts, khakis, sweatshirts or shorts.

There will be no morning bus service. The afternoon bus schedule will run as usual.

Bus Transportation will be provided for 4th - 8th grade students after Mass to take them to the Snoqualmie Campus.


Staff Updates

We welcome Melody Scherting back to Issaquah. We are excited to have Melody return to the position of Instructional Assistant in Issaquah. She worked with our primary students for many years and took last year off to care for her parents. She will be working with the 2nd and 3rd graders. We appreciate her devotion to St. Joseph School.

Extended Day welcomes Becky Callahan to the staff serving our students in the afternoons. Becky has extensive experience working with children. She has taught swimming lessons and Vacation Bible Camp and educated students about exotic animals through presentations at birthday parties, classroom presentations and festivals. Becky find working with children to be energizing and fulfilling. Welcome Mrs. Callahan!


School and Office Hours

Welcome back to school, hopefully the summer was relaxing and fun! Welcome to all of our new families. Here's to a wonderful school year!

Just a few reminders to start the new school year:


Elementary School Hours

Issaquah Campus Hours: 8:55 am to 3:20 pm
Wednesday Early Release: 8:55 am to 2:05 pm

Snoqualmie Campus Hours: 8:30 am to 3:00 pm
Wednesday Early Release: 8:30 am to 1:45 pm

Issaquah Campus Office Hours: 8:45 am to 4:00 pm (doors lock at 4pm)
Snoqualmie Campus Office Hours: 8:10 am to 3:30 pm (doors lock at 3:30 pm)

All parents and visitors must sign in at the school offices before going to classrooms. If you would like to meet with your child's teacher please email them first to set up an appointment. Teachers are preparing for the school day in the morning and don't always have time to conference with parents.


Campus Open for Students

Students are not allowed on campus before school unless they are in Extended Care in Issaquah or before school activities in Snoqualmie. Students may not be left unattended or dropped off before the drop-off attendant is present.

Directory Information for the 2014/15 School Year

If you have any changes to your contact information or would like your cell phone number published in the directory please email Patty Rosell at by the end of the day Monday, September 8 . If your information is sent after this date it will be published in the 2nd trimester updates.


After school pickup

Any student who has not been picked up by a parent at the Issaquah campus by 3:30 pm will be placed in Extended Care and charges will apply. Any Snoqualmie campus student who has not been picked up by 3:15 pm will be charged $5.00 per fifteen minutes.


Students walking off campus after school

If your child has permission to walk off campus after school, a note must be on file in the school office.


Back to School Nights

Please plan to attend St. Joseph Back to School nights. The Issaquah Campus night is Thursday, September 11 at 7pm. The Snoqualmie Campus night is Thursday, September 18 at 7pm.  These special parent nights will give you an opportunity to meet the staff and teachers. This is a parent only event. 

Conference Sign-Up Sheets will be posted and available for parents to schedule their conference at both Back to School Nights. Conferences are scheduled for the second week in November.

There will be a New Parent Volunteer Training at 6:15 pm before both Back to School Nights. This is a mandatory one-time training if you would like to volunteer.


Medication at School

The Washington Board of Health requires that ALL medication (over-the-counter or prescription) given during school hours requires an Authorization to Administer Oral Medication to be on file in the school office. This form includes the condition requiring medication, the drug to be administered, and the physician’s signature. All medications must be kept in the office in a secure location with clearly labeled written instructions. A student will report to the office at the prescribed time to have medication administered. Students will take all medications in the office and staff will sign off on a record keeping form. No teacher is to give out medications. School Nut Free Policy

Food Allergy & Nut Policy

For some students exposure to any kind of nuts may cause a life-threatening allergic reaction that requires emergency medical treatment. To reduce the chance of this occurring, both campuses are NUT FREE at all times.  Please do not send any nuts or nut containing products to school with your child.  If your child has eaten any nuts before coming to school, please ensure your child’s hands and face have been thoroughly washed before entering the school. However, the school cannot guarantee a totally nut free environment.


Milk Program

Milk may be purchased by the trimester or for the entire year. If your child would like milk, please complete the entire form and attach a check. All forms are due to the school office by Friday, September 5. Click here for the Milk Form.

 Zero Period Choir and Band - Snoqualmie Campus

Snoqualmie students were given an information and sign up sheet for Zero Period Choir (Grades 4-8) and Band (Grades 6-8) in their Thursday envelopes.  The forms are due back this Friday, September 5.  Zero Period Band will start on Tuesday, September 9 and Zero Period Choir will start on Wednesday, September 10.

Extended Day Registration

If your child will be using Extended Care anytime during the school year please fill out a registration form and return form to either school office. Click here for information on Extended Day and a fee schedule. Click here for the Extended Day Registration form.


Extended Day Calendar

All students are required to sign a Bus Ridership Rules and Regulation Form. If your child is not a regular bus rider they will be taking the bus for Field Trips during the school year. Please remember:

-No use of electronics and no food on the bus.

 -Bus Routes and Times Information Sheet and Bus Ridership Rules and Regulations Form.

 -Bus passes can be purchased at either school office.

Snoqualmie Campus - 4th-8th grade: Tuesday, September 23

Issaquah Campus - K-3rd grade: Wednesday, September 24

Picture order forms will be in next week’s Thursday Envelope. You will receive an order form for each child. Please have your child return their envelope on their scheduled picture day.


Music Concerts – Dates

Please mark your calendars for our annual St. Joseph School Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 and Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Both events will start at 6:30pm at Mary, Queen of Peace Church in Sammamish. Band students need to arrive at 6pm for warm-up and all other students need to arrive by 6:15pm to be seated with their teachers. Dress is Sunday best. Please be sure to join us for these wonderful events.

2014 Annual Auction – All Is Merry & Bright

Procurement and Sponsorship:

Auction procurement and sponsorship DEADLINE is TOMORROW - September 5. We would love donations related to travel, spa services, golf, sporting events, theater, kid activities, and more.

Another opportunity to meet your procurement obligation is before and after the All School Mass this Friday, September 5 at 9am. While you are there why not support our Annual School Auction by participating in our "Friday Gift Card Frenzy"!   We would like to collect as many gift cards as possible to use in our packages for the Silent Auction. We will have a table set up in front of the Church to collect gift cards but if you can't find time between now and Friday the 5th to buy one we will have our fabulous SCRIP ladies selling gift cards in front of the Church as well. SJS Cash Cards program includes a tuition credit for 2015/2016.  Families purchase SJS Cash Cards throughout 2014/2015 & up to 30% of their SJS Cash Cards rebate maybe applied to their 2015/2016 tuition, as a tuition credit. Links will be available in next weeks newsletter. 

SJS Cash Cards is implementing "Special Orders" every week.  Place orders through or use SJS "Special Order Form" by 9 am Monday & receive your order by Thursday afternoon of the same week.  Special Order Form.

Parents' Club first official meeting will be held on Monday, September 8 in the Library of SJS Issaquah. ALL parents are encouraged to attend at some point throughout the year.  

All meetings will be 9-10am in St. Theresa Room (parish library)


Parents' Club Event Check Form

If you were unable to attend Back to Business Day please fill out the Parents' Event Check Form. Included on this form is: Auction Project Fee, Lazarus House, Emergency Supplies, Field Day, and Yearbook. The form is due tomorrow, September 5 to either office. Event Check Form





Mandatory Volunteer Requirements:

At St. Joseph School the safety of our students, mind and body, is important to all of us. In order to volunteer in any capacity that involves students including: classroom volunteer, coach, scout leader, field trip volunteer, etc., volunteers must meet the following requirements:



           ●  Attend a volunteer training at St. Joseph School

           ●  Confidentiality Pledge yearly (last page of the Volunteer Handbook),

           ●  Fill out and pass a Volunteer Background Check

           ●  Attend a free 3-hour Safe Environment training program “Called to Protect for Ministries”
               held in locations throughout the Seattle Archdiocese. (Register for classes

           ●  Send a copy of your certificate of completion to Michelle Steinberg in the school office.



           ●  Fill out and pass a Volunteer Background Check every 3 years.

           ●  Review the Volunteer Handbook yearly

           ●  Sign a Confidentiality Pledge yearly (last page of the Volunteer Handbook),

           Complete one Safe Environment online training update (approximately one hour)
              by October 31 of each year. (Click here for information

Eastside Catholic Select Basketball Program Tryouts

Eastside Catholic will be holding tryouts for their Select basketball program. Tryouts are open to boys and girls in grades 5-8. Tryouts will be held on the following dates and times:
