Mark your calendars for GiveBIG 2017

We are pleased to announce that St. Joseph School will be participating in The Seattle Foundation’s 2017 GiveBIG event on May 10!

The Seattle Foundation's GiveBIG is a one-day, online charitable giving event to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a healthier and more vital place to live.  Each donation* made to St. Joseph School through The Seattle Foundation website between midnight and midnight (Pacific Daylight Time) on Tuesday, May 10, 2017, will receive a prorated portion of the matching funds (or "stretch") pool. The amount of the "stretch" depends on the size of the stretch pool and how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day.

Simply log on to www.seattlefoundation.org and search for St. Joseph School Issaquah and Snoqualmie to make your gift to SJS. Help us spread the word!  This is a great way for alumni, past parents, parishioners, grandparents and friends to support St. Joseph School as part of Seattle's biggest day of giving to nonprofits for the year.  On May 10, look for the GiveBig event on our Facebook page for a direct link to our profile.  If you have any questions about how you can support SJS through GiveBIG, please contact Megan Michalson at mmichalson@sjsissaquah.org.

Exciting News from the Art Room!

St. Joseph School, Snoqualmie Campus, is registered with Artsonia.com, an online art gallery that allows students to have their own webpage to showcase their artwork!  Artsonia allows parents to view their child’s artwork and share it with family members and friends all around the world.

Over 500 images of student artwork have already been uploaded to our school’s art gallery with more art being uploaded each week.  So far we have had close to 200 “Artist Fans” join our gallery to cheer on our students, and 120 students have already earned online awards!  Most recently, Artsonia chose SJS seventh grader, Scott R., as a finalist for “Artist of the Week” and he received over 900 votes from the online art community!  St. Joseph Students have been so excited to see all the great feedback from family and friends that is posted to their gallery page, so thank you to everyone that has shown their support!

Parental permission is required for each student and we have already reached 100% school-wide participation for fourth  and fifth grades, as well as the sixth and seventh graders that have completed a trimester of art enrichment.  Over the next few weeks, email invitations from Artsonia will be going out for this trimester’s art enrichment students.

If you have any questions about Artsonia, please contact Art Instructor, Laura Henion at lhenion@sjsissaquah.org.

We hope you enjoy St. Joseph School’s online art gallery at: www.artsonia.com/museum/gallery.asp?school=162520

Volunteers needed in preparation for Issaquah Art and Authors Night!

Hello Elementary Parents! I am seeking volunteer help with preparing your children's wonderful art for our fast approaching Issaquah Art and Author Night on May 11.  There are many projects to be glued onto background paper and such.  This is a great way to volunteer from home!  If you are interested, come by the art room in Issaquah on Wednesdays or Thursdays before 9 or after 12 and I will give you a folder with all of the supplies and art with instructions. Then return the same way or to the office.  I can also leave a folder for you in the office if the above times are inconvenient for you.  Thanks so much for your help!  Mrs. Mac.  lmacinnes@sjsissaquah.org

Volunteers Needed for Parish Appreciation Dinner!

We are looking for 8 middle school students to volunteer on Friday, May 19, for the St. Joseph Parish Volunteer Appreciation Dinner in Fr. McGirl Hall.  We need 4 volunteers to help serve the food, 2 volunteers to replenish the beverage table and 2 volunteers to help with the activities (the photo booth and bingo table). The two students who would help with the activities would start the evening at the photo booth taking pictures and after dinner would run the Bingo event.  Students should arrive at 5:30pm so we can show them what their jobs will entail. This event will end at 8:30pm.  To volunteer, please contact Kathy Rempe at kathyrempe@gmail.com.

Many Hands Make Light Work!

The Spring Concert is coming up on the evening of May 23 and Mrs. Weitzsacker needs volunteers to help make the concert possible. You do NOT need to have a child in band to volunteer for this event! This is an easy way to get some volunteer hours in.  Help is needed with moving equipment, set up, and student supervision. Please contact Mrs. Weitzsacker at lweitzsacker@sjsissaquah.org with any questions or to sign up to help. Thank you!

Pizza Fridays

Are you looking for some fun volunteer hours? Help is still needed to distribute lunchtime pizza at the Snoqualmie Campus on Pizza Fridays.  Please contact Michelle Macartney sarrufm@hotmail.com if you are interested.

Mandatory Volunteer Requirements:

           ●  Attend a volunteer training at St. Joseph School.

           ●  Send a copy of your certificate of completion to Roxane Barkley in the school office at office@sjsissaquah.org

RETURNING VOLUNTEERS:

●  Go online at www.virtusonline.org, fill out and pass a Volunteer Background Check every 3 years. Complete associated on-line class.

●  Sign a Confidentiality Pledge yearly (last page of the Volunteer Handbook)

For questions, please contact Roxane Barkley in the Issaquah office, 425-313-9129 x 321.

New Safe Environment information:

The archdiocese has made substantial changes to the Safe Environment program last year and it has been working out the glitches over the year. The archdiocese still requires a valid background check every three years, a 3 hour in-person class, and every three years, an on-line course.  The school also requires in-person attendance at a class conducted at school and a signed Confidentiality Form. The school form is on our website.

All background checks and on-line classes go through www.virtusonline.org.  If you have been a volunteer anywhere in the archdiocese previously, you will be in the system. Please contact Roxane Barkley at office@sjsissaquah.org if you need help navigating the system.
