Family Vacations - SJS Handbook

Parents are asked to avoid deviating from the school calendar or daily instructional schedule for the convenience of family vacations. Parents should not plan appointments or vacations during the time students are taking standardized tests. Unscheduled days off from school for family vacations cause students to miss valuable instruction for which teachers are unable to provide a special studies program. Assignments will not be given in anticipation of the vacation, and in addition teachers are not required to give make-up tests or assignments for absences due to vacation. Absences due to family vacation are not considered excused.

Directory Update

Look for first trimester updates to come home soon. If you have any changes to your personal information; address, email or phone number that you would like in the Directory Update for second trimester, please email Patty at snoqualmie@sjsissaquah.org.

Trouble with opening email attachments from SJS?

We are updating our files and want to make certain we have everyone who is not able to open attachments from SJS email accounted for.  Please email Ann Vandewark at business@sjsissaquah.orgif you are a family that has trouble with attachments.  Ann will send all staff members an updated list so that we can send hard copies home for you.  Thank you!

 Annual Fund

Thank you to everyone who has made a gift to the Annual Fund.  If you have not made a pledge to the Annual Fund, please turn your pledge card in as soon as possible.  If you would like to make a year-end gift to SJS, please make sure that it is postmarked by December 31, 2016.  Thank you to the many families that participate in their employers' matching gift program.  Many companies have year-end giving guidelines.  Please keep that in mind if you are submitting your matching requests or volunteer hours. If you have any questions, your matching gift program coordinator should be able to provide any information needed.

As we enter the season of Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to thank each and every family for the many generous ways that you support St. Joseph School.  The support from the school community is greatly appreciated and is a reflection of the strength of the St. Joseph community. Wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving from Megan Michalson

If you have not returned your procurement form, please do so as soon as possible.  We will be collecting wine for the wine cellar at the auction in the month of December.  We'd love your contributions of wine valued between $25 and $75.  If you are stocking up for the thanksgiving holiday, please consider picking up an extra bottle for the auction.  Your donation will help us fill the cellar!

●  Go online at http://www.virtusonline.org to request and pass a Volunteer Background Check.

●  Attend a free, 3-hour Safe Environment training program “Protecting God’s Children” for Adults held in locations throughout the Seattle Archdiocese. Register for classes at www.virtusonline.org.
●  Send a copy of your certificate of completion to Roxane Barkley in the school office at office@sjsissaquah.org

RETURNING VOLUNTEERS:

●  Go online at www.virtusonline.org, fill out and pass a Volunteer Background Check every 3 years. Complete associated on-line class.

●  Review the Volunteer Handbook yearly

●  Sign a Confidentiality Pledge yearly (last page of the Volunteer Handbook)

For questions, please contact Roxane Barkley in the Issaquah office, 425-313-9129 x 321.

New Safe Environment information:

The archdiocese has made substantial changes to the Safe Environment program last year and it has been working out the glitches over the year. The archdiocese still requires a valid background check every three years, a 3 hour in-person class, and every three years, an on-line course.  The school also requires in-person attendance at a class conducted at school and a signed Confidentiality Form. The school form is on our website.

All background checks and on-line classes go through www.virtusonline.org.  If you have been a volunteer anywhere in the archdiocese previously, you will be in the system. Please contact Roxane Barkley at office@sjsissaquah.org if you need help navigating the system.
