Reading Connection Newsletters

We are excited to provide Reading Connection Newsletters to all our students and parents once a month in the school Thursday Envelopes.  In these issues you will find fun and engaging ideas, tips, and activities to support reading and writing development in your Kindergarten through fifth grade age children.  The ideas correlate with what our students are working on in the classrooms. We hope you find this information helpful and useful.  These newsletters will be provided by Teresa Waldo and Jennifer Rosario, SJS Reading Specialists.

Scholastic Books.

The first scholastic fliers of the year are going home this week.  Your orders support the school in addition to supporting your child's reading.  Scholastic provides many free materials to teachers when orders are placed.

You can order books online by clicking on the reading club tab on Scholastic's website and by entering the code on the flier. You may also order by check, sending your order and payment to the teacher by due date on the order form. Orders are processed for the entire school, not just individual classrooms.  Jackie Olund is the name on the account.  The books will be delivered to your child's classroom teacher when they arrive. Thank you for supporting this program.  Any questions or concerns, please contact Michele Simmons at wdwminnie1@msn.com or Christina Marchione at stinamoo@hotmail.com

New Safe Environment information:

The archdiocese has made substantial changes to the Safe Environment program last year and it has been working out the glitches over the year. The archdiocese still requires a valid background check every three years, a 3 hour in-person class, and every three years, an on-line course.  The school also requires in-person attendance at a class conducted at school and a signed Confidentiality Form. The school form is on our website.

All background checks and on-line classes go through www.virtusonline.org.  If you have been a volunteer anywhere in the archdiocese previously, you will be in the system. Please contact Roxane Barkley at office@sjsissaquah.org if you need help navigating the system.
