2018-2019 School Year Volunteer Opportunities

The St Joseph School volunteer calendar runs from May 16th - May 15th each school year. Below are all volunteer opportunities, listed in calendar order.

Opportunities for each event will be available in OnVolunteers as the event date draws near (usually 2 weeks - 1 month prior to event date) but if you are interested in learning more about an opportunity or becoming a Chair or Coordinator for any events listed below, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Tanya Lauckner, at for availability and further event details.

End of May (16th - 31st)

Art and Author Night Set Up - The day before Art and Author night can be a stressful one for our art teacher! Help Mrs. Mac display the student’s artwork in the hall the day before the event. Please contact if you’d like to volunteer.

o Credit: 2-6 hours

Vision and Hearing Screenings - Volunteers are needed to walk children to and from their classrooms and to administer the screening tests. No medical background is needed; a volunteer nurse will be on hand for day-of training.

o Credit: 2-4 hours.

Auction Room Organizing - Two volunteers are needed to help organize the Auction Room on the Snoqualmie campus. You’ll feel great when we get it all set up for the upcoming year’s Auction!

o Credit: 3 hours


Field Day - Help on either the Issaquah or Snoqualmie campus to set up, run and clean up the field day event. Volunteer needs include field day shoppers, lunch supervisors, station attendants, and lunch assis- tants.

o Credit: 3-16 hours.

Mentor Families - Welcome new families to our SJS Community by becoming a mentor family. This commitment involves making time for play dates, answering questions from new families, and keeping in touch with new families throughout the school year. o Credit: 10-30 hours


Annual Fund Chairs - Lead and inspire other SJS families by sharing your love of our school by chairing the fall Annual Fund! Your family will tell your own SJS story and help inspire our community to help “Bridge the Gap” between the cost of tuition and the actual cost to educate through generous Annual Fund donations. Annual Fund Chairs sign letters to our community, reach out through social media and lead the way to a successful Annual Fund that “Bridges the Gap” and reminds all of us of the special community we share at St. Joseph School.

o Credit: 10-40 hours

Summer Work Party – Put your gardening and landscaping skills to use at our annual summer work party! We need all hands-on-deck to help with weeding, pruning, and general beautification prior to the start of the school year.

o Credit: 1-5 hours


Picture Day - Assist teachers, at both the Issaquah and Snoqualmie Campuses, in getting their students or- ganized and ready for individual pictures! You will help keep the students in order, help the photographer identify each student, and escort students to their pictures.

o Credit: 1-3 hours


Book Fair - Volunteers are needed every Fall for our annual Scholastic Book Fair. Responsibilities include set up, cashiering during business hours, and tear down.

o Credit: 1-10 hours

Salmon Days – Join SJS staff and students in the Salmon Days parade! Pick up donuts for those who participate and walk as a group the length of the Salmon Days parade while helping with the management of the elementary students who have volunteered!

o Credit: 1-3 hours

Textile Drive - Twice a year we work with Value Village to collect gently used clothing and household items and a portion of the proceeds are given to us as a school! Volunteers are needed to collect and organ- ize the donations given by school and parish families at both the Issaquah and Snoqualmie campuses.

o Credit: 1-5 hours


Teacher Appreciation Lunch - We wrap up Catholic School’s Week by hosting a lunch for our teachers and staff of St Joseph School and Parish! 5-6 volunteers will set up, serve, and tear down lunch for our teachers and staff. This event is held the Friday of Catholic School’s Week at 12:30 pm

o Credit: 2-8 hours

Carnival - Help celebrate an end to Catholic School’s Week at our annual Carnival! The event is held at Mary Queen of Peace and volunteers are needed to set up, organize games, create marketing flyers, procure and purchase food, decorations, and prizes, and clean up after the event.

o Credit: 1-10 hours

Mariners Night Coordinator - SJS Mariner’s Night is a fun annual event for our school! Beginning in late winter, the coordinator will work alongside the Parent’s Club board and our Seattle Mariner’s contact to de- termine our Mariner’s Night event date, ticket pricing, and general fundraising needs of our school.

o Credit: 10-15 hours


St. Joseph School Auction - Our St Joseph School Auction is set for March 2, 2019, at the Bellevue Mar- riott! It’s our biggest celebration and fundraising event of the year! In the months leading up to the auction, dozens of volunteers are needed starting in September and throughout the year to help with procuring auction items and donations, class projects, correspondence, signage, After-Mass raffle ticket sales in the month of February. “Auction Day” opportunities include venue set-up, table decorations, bakers for the dessert dash, and night-of event volunteers. Walk-A-Thon Prep Party - Help St Joe’s prepare for the Snoqualmie and Issaquah Walkathon events! Join the pre-walkathon prep party to prepare day-of materials for the kids.

o Credit: 2-3 hours

Walk-A-Thon - Help support the Issaquah and Snoqualmie Walk-A-Thon with your volunteer hours. Op- portunities are available at both campuses and include set up, supplying and running the music, event assis- tance, and tear down / clean up.

o Credit: 2-10 hours

St Martin de Porres Collection Delivery - Pick up donated personal hygiene items from grades Kinder- garten through 8th and drop them off at the St. Martin de Porres Men’s shelter in Seattle.

o Credit: 3 hours

Non Event Related Opportunities

Library - Are you interested in helping our budding readers? From book covering to grade specific needs, we would love your help! Please contact for current opportunities.

o Credit: 1-45 hours

Morning Drop Off - Join parents as they welcome students each morning! Bring a smile with you to help set up cones, open car doors, and wish students a lovely day as they walk to their classrooms.

o Credit: 10-40 hours

Thursday Folders - Help get our important information to parents via our Thursday Communication Folders. Assist Pearl DeJesus as she stuffs envelopes with flyers and other important information.

o Credit: 10-40 hours

Lazarus House - Lazarus House Day Center in Seattle provides a warm, safe, daytime shelter with a com- munity atmosphere for homeless and marginally housed men and women age 50 and older. Each month a different grade is responsible for shopping, making, and delivering ham and cheese sandwiches to the Laza- rus House in Seattle. Contact your child’s class Room Parent for further details and opportunities.

o Credit: 2-4 hours

Yearbook - We are always looking for parents interested in working on the yearbook. This is done from home, so it’s a great opportunity for working parents!

o Credit: 1-20 hours

Pizza Coordinator - One volunteer is needed at each campus to order and deliver pizza to the campuses each Friday. This person is also in charge of ordering pizza supplies. Since this is a weekly commitment, it is a great way to get all your hours filled with just one job!

o Credit: 45-60 hours

Room Parents - Want to be involved in your child’s classroom happenings? Sign up to be a Room Parents! You will help coordinate volunteers for activities going on in the classroom, classroom outreach, auction projects, and more!
